چکیده

increasing energy demands associated with economic growth and industrialization have resulted in dramatic increases in air pollution emissions. air pollution damages the plant mainly by disrupting cell homeostatic conditions.in the present study, diverse plant criteria indicating air pollution from different levels including cell biochemistry, leaf and tree crown in the plane-tree were determined, and their relation to the air pollutants such as ozone, nitrous oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and particulates was investigated. results showed that the concentration of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in the leaf of plane-tree are reduced with increase in the ozone concentration in the air. the concentration of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b are negatively correlated with no in the autumn (r= -0.69 and -0.72, respectively). specific leaf area showed a positive relation with the concentration of ozone, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide (p

Influence of Environmental Pollution on Leaf Properties of Urban Plane Trees, Platanus orientalis L.

To investigate whether leaves of plane trees (Platanus orientalis) are damaged by traffic pollution, trees from a megacity (Mashhad, Iran) and a rural area were investigated. Soil and air from the urban centre showed enrichment of several toxic elements, but only lead was enriched in leaves. Leaf size and stomata density were lower at the urban site. At the urban site leaf surfaces were heavily...

Response of Plane Tree (platanus Orientalis) to Cuttings and Planting Dates

Field experiment was carried out at Ornamental Nursery, Department of Horticulture, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Agricultural University Peshawar, during 2009 to study “the response of plane tree cuttings to different planting dates”. Three types of cuttings (hardwood cuttings, semi-hardwood cuttings, Softwood cuttings) and three dates (6 January, 21 January and 5 February) were studied. The experim...

Analysis of the physiological responses of the plane and willow trees against air pollution in Tehran .

Trees can improve air quality, but at the same time, pollution might put them at risk. Plane(Platanus orientalis L) and willow trees (Salix babylonicaL) are important trees in the green space of Tehran. Plane trees in Tehran have experienced early autumn in recent years due to severe air pollution. The present study, investigated some physiological traits of these trees under study to determine...

A 25-year Monitoring of the Air Pollution Depicted by Plane Tree Species in Tehran

Tehran, one of the heavily-populated capitals, is severely suffering from increasing air pollution. To show a documented trend of such pollutants during last years, plane tree species (Platanus orientalis) were suited to be studied as indicators, for the species have been planted throughout the city many years ago. Two areas (Saadatabad and Narmak districts) allotting different contents of crow...

The impacts of air pollution on maternal stress during pregnancy

To investigate the association of air pollution with maternal stress during pregnancy, we enrolled 1,931 women during mid-to-late pregnancy in Shanghai in 2010. The "Life-Event Scale for Pregnant Women" and "Symptom-Checklist-90-Revised Scale" (SCL-90-R) were used to evaluate life event stress and emotional stress, respectively. Air pollution data were collected for each district where pregnant...
